Profile of Dr. Shahdab Hussain


Dr. Shahdab Hussain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Botany at Sangam University, Bhilwara (Rajasthan), with over 14 years of teaching and research experience. He specializes in Pteridology, Ecology, Taxonomy, Ethnobotany, Phytochemistry, and Experimental Biology of Angiosperms, and has made significant contributions to the documentation and exploration of vascular plant diversity in Rajasthan, India.He has published extensively in national and international journals and discovered several new records of pteridophytes and angiosperms to the flora of Rajasthan, including Selaginella reticulata, Adiantum recurvatum, and Pteris vittata subsp. emodi. His research extends to phytochemical investigations, ethnomedicinal documentation, and experimental studies on plant physiology.

Dr. Hussain has successfully completed funded research projects on bioprospecting and phytochemical characterization of endangered medicinal plants of the Indian Thar Desert and on nanoparticle toxicity in aquatic organisms. He has also authored and edited academic books, contributed book chapters, and holds patents on innovative botanical instruments such as the Digital Light Insect Trap Machine and Hussimeter for phytochemical analysis.Recognized with numerous awards, including the James Chadwick Research Award, Carl Nageli Research Award, Biodiversity Expert Award, Ecological Expert Award, and Best Scientist of the Year Award, Dr. Hussain has also received multiple Young Scientist Awards at national and international levels.He is actively engaged in academic bodies as a Life Member of the Indian Fern Society, Indian Botanical Society, ABRF, SAIARD, and California Botanical Society, among others. He has participated in more than 75 national and international conferences, delivered invited talks, and served as a committee member in global scientific events.

Currently, Dr. Hussain serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for several international journals in botany, biodiversity, and environmental sciences, including the International Journal of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (India), The Journal of Biodiversity Photon (USA), American Journal of Natural Science, and European Journal of Biology.
